Situated in the southwestern corner of Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park is famous for its ancient cliff dwellings. Named by Spanish explorers in the 1700s and meaning "green table", the national park was established in 1906 and achieved UNESCO World Heritage status in the late 1970s. Today, visitors worldwide enjoy the awe-inspiring cliff dwellings and structures built by ancestral Puebloan peoples between the 5th and 14th centuries.
